Acklam Footbridge

Bridges

Acklam Footbridge is an exposed location on a key pedestrian route running over the railway and under the Westway Flyover to popular Golborne Road. Council efforts to clean up the bridge had all failed and it remained a graffiti-tagged and hostile environment known locally as ‘muggers bridge’.

Urban Eye was commissioned by the council to find a solution and responded by producing a design which visually breaks up the bridge surfaces. Vibrant and fresh colours with a contrasting pattern detail created a visual effect over which routine tagging loses its impact. Urban Eye later installed durable LED lighting at this location to improve public safety at night.
