St Marks Road tube bridge was a neglected site in an area associated with crime and anti-social behaviour. Residents requested their local councillor to seek ways to improve and upgrade the structure.
Urban Eye were invited to improve the bridge following their successful project at Ladbroke Grove tube bridge. Urban Eye produced five design options for the bridge parapet. Consultation on these was carried out with residents, local businesses and visitors to the area over a weekend, the chosen design giving the area a fresh and lively atmosphere.
London Underground contributed to the project by carrying out repairs and repainting the structure to Urban Eye specifications. Funding was provided by the Local Ward Initiative budget.
